How to Add Widgets to Active Rain - BlogRush

I just posted this about this cool new tool, BLOGRUSH and had a comment about how to add it.  I thought it was common knowledge that everyone on Active Rain is a Techno-geek, but I guess not.  There are some mere mortals on this great site (myself included).

So here's a step - by -step tutorial on how to add a widget, we'll use BLOGRUSH as our example widget.

  1. First if you want to add a widget you'll likely need to sign up.  So you'll need to visit BlogRush's Website: Go Here: http://www.blogrush.com/r59502656
  2. You'll want to sign up for an account.
  3. Now there a part with most of these type of widgets that will as for a feed for your site.  Look at the bottom of your blog for RSS IMAGE or just type your blog address and add/rss to the end of it. For example mine is http://activerain.com/blogs/jarvisteam/rss.
  4. Now that you have submitted your blog to BlogRush they will take you to a page to insert the widget.  There is some code there for you to copy.  CTRL+C after highlighting the code will do the trick.
  5. Now go back to your active rain site. CLick on MY HOME
  6. Click on MY Settings
  7. Where it says "BLOG DESCRIPTION" insert or CTRL+V the code.  You can put anything you want in this section and it will appear on your side bar.
  8. As for Blog Rush, once you have added the code look at your blog and look for the BlogRush logo on your sidebarBlogRush .
  9. Once that's done you'll have to wait a day or two to see if they approve your Blog. IF you have been blogging for at least 2 or 3 months, you should be fine.

I've bolded the steps that actually have to do with the widget adding.

I hope this helps someone.

Joshua - Very good information. I had not added widgets yet but your blog sounds like it will be pretty easy.

That was pretty quick and simple.  Many thanks Josh, I'm no techno wiz but it was straight forward.  Thank you for sharing.

Charlie - Widgets are pre-coded snippets to that can be used. If you ever read a blog and wonder what that stuff is on the side of their blog, most of the time those are widgets. See "my adoring fans?" That's a widget. How about my recently updated listings? Widget too. As to why you would want to add a widget that's up to you. Some can help monetize your site, while others are just fun and interactive, while still others are for SEO purposes. I'll make a note to write about this in the future.

Tina - Glad it helped.

Dan - Use it for good and not for evil.  LOL.

Kay - Blogrush is great but the article was about adding widgets.  I think you have a few.
